Being awarded with “Technology Award 2013” by Combustion Society of Japan

Plantec Inc. has been awarded “Technology Award 2013” by Combustion Society of Japan, Japan’s most prestigious combustion research institute. An awarding ceremony was held at ‘The 51st Combustion Symposium’ hosted by Combustion Society of Japan (Date: 4-6th December, Venue: Ohta-ku Industrial Plaza Pio).

In the ceremony, Motoaki Katsui, CFO of Plantec, received a certificate of commendation from Shigeru Azuhata, the president of the society.

The awarded technology is “waste combustion technology by the Vertical Combustor”.
In various types of waste incineration, it has achieved the following combustion technologies, in which waste is completely pyrolyzed and combustible flue gas is completely combusted.

  1. Supply of primary combustion air, the air ratio of which is kept lowered up to approx.0.4, blown from the bottom of  primary combustion chamber.
  2. Drying and pyrolysis of waste in the temperature range of 900-1000 deg C avoiding clinker adhesion.
  3. Complete combustion of flue gas pyrolytically-generated from waste achieved by secondary combustion air and a rectifier.

Different types of incinerators (e.g. a moving grate, a rotary kiln, and a fluidized bed etc.) have been selected for different types of waste (i.e. waste composition and size) such as municipal solid waste containing food waste and industrial waste generated by business activities.

Meanwhile, gasification technology to generate flue gas through partial combustion process of fuel with air ratio kept as low as 0.4 in waste combustion has also been developed. However, it has been said that stable operation is very difficult due to moisture content and unstable calorific value of the waste.

The award-winning Vertical Combustor is a proven technology that has demonstrated stable incineration of disaster waste and medical waste which have a wide range of calorific value, in addition to municipal and industrial waste.  The achievement of stable operation was highly appreciated. Furthermore, it was evaluated for being advantageous for waste-to-energy expected in biomass power generation as well because of its extremely low ignition loss and fixed carbon content in residue and small fluctuation of flue gas characteristics.
